Andy Murray

Wimbledon is now a distant memory and with Judy Murray about to hit the Strictly dance floor, let’s take a quick look at the Birth Chart of her famous son Andy who was born in Glasgow on May 15th 1987 at 2.10pm

Andy’s Rising Sign is in analytical, practical and busy Virgo. Sensible and methodical but somewhat edgy and fidgety, he sees life through very discriminating, clever eyes and arrived into the world expecting it to be a less than perfect place. Order matters to him. So does logic and detail. In many ways he sees life like a giant jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces have to fit. Chaos worries him, unless it’s of the organised sort. So there’s something of the Mr Fix-It mentality underpinning his entire nature because he’s astutely aware of how things can be improved and made more efficient. It gives a critical edge to his character making it difficult for him to tolerate sloppiness wherever he sees it-especially in himself. Andy has a deep seam of skill and craftsmanship running through him. And great versatility. This is one of Virgo’s gifts. But it’s especially the gift of Virgo’s Ruling Planet, the quick-thinking, agile and dexterous Mercury which is very prominent in Andy’s Birth Chart. People born with this Planet prominent in their Charts usually possess great hand-eye co-ordination and can move and think with equal speed.

So basically our tennis champ was born with ants in his pants and overactive brain cells! His mind and body crave constant activity and he’ll be prone to flitting about from one short-lived enthusiasm to another. However with hard-working Virgo at the forefront of his nature comes the drive to marshal his scattered, grape-shot type energy into something more constructive and productive. Other parts of his nature may be more easy-going, fun and even a little lazy but what truly colours his character is competence, practicality and expertise. Utter modesty too. There’s not an egotistical bone in this humble man’s body.

Andy’s Moon Sign is Sagittarius which means his instinctive, emotional reaction to life is happy-go-lucky, easy-going and philosophical. Also highly intelligent and forward-thinking. While his Virgo traits may tend to make him quick to worry and feel anxious, his Sagittarian Moon encourages hope, humour and happy endings. On an instinctive level then, Andy is driven by optimism, exploration and fun. And we’ve been seeing that more light-hearted side of late in various TV documentaries. However his Chart suggests that this part of his nature, although innate, is often difficult to feel and therefore express. That’s because his Moon is imprisoned between two heavyweight Planets- Saturn and Uranus – each having a powerful say in the way he expresses his carefree, cavalier Moon Sign. Saturn is all about control and discipline and Uranus is all about ice cold reason. It’s always going to be so hard for him to feel totally up-beat, carefree and cavalier when he’s also being urged to be controlled and disciplined on the one hand and utterly logical and objective on the other! Both these Planets in their own way smother and inhibit Andy’s feeling nature. One controls it and the other cuts him off from it. Both hint at an early childhood where duty, restraint and responsibility were constantly instilled but also where the emotional ambience in the family home could be as unpredictable as the weather. As a result, Andy’s joker mentality lives alongside more serious and sober emotions and his basic optimistic faith in life lives alongside an anxious sense that things could change at any moment.

His Sun Sign is Taurus which means he’s patient, practical and as stubborn as they come! Sincere and uncomplicated, he’s a man of substance at heart who strives for predictability and constancy. While his Virgo traits and strong Mercury can make him rather unfocussed and scattered at times, this is more than compensated for in his bull-like determination and never-say-die attitude. For him, it’s not really about what gets started that counts, it’s what gets finished. At heart, he’s a builder of stuff and his deepest motivation is to build security for himself, especially of the tangible sort. Money and material possessions matter a great deal to Andy and he’s probably always been a collector of something or another. Physical comfort is also something that’s dear to him. Anything that pleases the senses and allows him to luxuriate a little will always make him happy. Other factors in his chart as we’ve seen, show a busy, productive side to his character, but with his Sun in sensuous Taurus there’s no doubt he’ll enjoy being busy doing nothing just as much! www.andymurray.com
